Full multipath support for qemu

an idea by hreinecke

I've already posted basic multipath support for qemu last week. However, this still relies on the non-obvious hack to specify the same file for both block devices, thereby implictly doing multipathing. And it has the drawback that one can only use the 'raw' format for images, everything else won't work.

Start with fault tolerant Xen server prototype

a project by j_gross

A normal Xen server today has many single points of failure. Those can be reduced by disaggregating Dom0 into multiple domains (xenstore, driver domains, admin domain). Following this path to it's logical end will lead to a setup where the running domUs won't be depending on Dom0 any more, so Dom0 itself can be made restartable. This project aims at beginning with a prototype by setting up a configuration with a xenstore domain and a driver domain for networking. This will allow running a pv-domU with network resources only (nfs or iscsi root file system) no longer needing Dom0 to run.

Add branding to DAPS and the suse-xsl-stylesheets

DAPS is the tool used by the SUSE documentation team to generate HTML, ePUB, PDF, ... output of the SUSE manuals from DocBook XML sources. It uses the suse-xsl-stylesheets for this purpose. Currently three different suse-xsl-stylesheet brands exist: SUSE, DAPS, openSUSE. Branding is done by adjusting the xsl-stylesheets directly. It would be desirable to be able to easily change the branding, e.g. via a simple config file in the style of /etc/sysconfig files, since most people cannot hack XSLT. This is also the number one enhancement request we get from DAPS users outside of SUSE.

Dive into Linux Kernel Memory management

an idea by herbert0890

When I worked on some bugs about Linux Kernel Memory management, I met zone, frame, slab allocator, buddy allocator, and etc. I want to summarize these memory management knowledge and dive deep into it. Hope I could finish some kernel modules to verify these theories.

Research Testing Tools for GFX Stack & how they can be used in openQA

a project by eeich

<p>There are numerous testing tools for the GFX stack available - the oldes being the xtest suite. At the same time, we are still lacking automated test environments for the funktionalities of DRM, Mesa and X. Ideally the tests should be performed automatically and unattended and the results should be compared to previous runs to detect regressions.</p> <p>Research what tools exist to date and how they can be employed.</p>

Internal shared images repository

a project by ancorgs

During the last CSM workshop we identified the need to have a good way to share the images we use for testing. We have documented the requirements and the current status in this wiki page (we even have a diagram). So analysis is done... it's time for action. The solution should be relatively easy to implement using our portfolio of solutions. Coordinating all the potential users should be easier during Hackweek, specially since I'll be in Nuremberg (and I can physically chase most people ;-) ).

Obsolete: Stabilize Janus

an idea by ancorgs

During previous Hackweek, Jangouts (an alternative to Google Hangouts) was developed. Since then, it has served as well in the YaST team. Other teams are also using the internal instance regularly. But it cannot be adopted company-wide due to the instability of the main server component (Janus Gateway) when running on top of SLE12. For details, see this thread on the (internal) Reseach mailing list. I don't have the knowledge to fix the problems, but I'd be 100% available to help anybody trying to hunt the issues down (I'll be in Nuremberg during hackweek). As an alternative, I'm considering a plan B I would hate to do: dockerize Janus with Debian/Ubuntu since that seem to be the environment used by the Janus developers.
